Botox for Bunny Lines: How it Works
Patients treated for bunny lines typically see visible softening within 5–7 days. In my experience, two small units per side yield great results, with a natural look lasting 3–4 months.

The tiny wrinkles that you see on the sides of the nose when you smile or when you wrinkle your are called bunny lines.These lines can develop and become more prominent over time, as a result of frequent facial muscle activity. Botox is a safe and effective non-surgical way to soften these lines with targeted treatment.

are small, slanting wrinkles that appear on either side of the nose, usually running from the bridge to the area immediately below the eye. They are often even more pronounced when girls laugh or smile.
Recurring movement of these muscles in time can cause lines to form that remain visible even when the muscles are at rest.
Bunny lines are often caused by the repetitive movement of the nasalis muscle, which crosses the bridge of the nose. Excess facial movement results in broken down collagen and elastin in the skin and leads to the appearance of wrinkles.
They can also become more prominent if Botox is used on other parts of the face, such as the forehead or near the eyes. For some people the nasalis muscle is overactive even at rest, which can result in bunny lines.
Bunny lines are not a direct result of Botox. However, if surrounding muscles are injected with Botox and are less active, the nasalis can take up the slack by working harder during the course of a facial expression. This can make bunny lines, if you already have them, appear more prominent, or if you don’t already have them, develop.
A conservative technique with the use of Botox in the nasalis muscle can help to decrease this tendency and to obtain a natural result.
Botox consists of purified protein that works to temporarily block muscle movement. Injected into the nasalis muscle, it halts the overactive contractions responsible for bunny lines. As the muscle relaxes, the overlying skin starts to relax.
The procedure is non-invasive and quick, with little or no down time.
Botox is injected on both sides of nasalis muscle. These are just above the nostrils and a bit onto the bridge of the nose. The aim is to focus the muscle that is expressed and not the surrounding area of expression.
Precision is key. Correct placement means that the lines are softened but still allow for natural movement of the face.
On average, most people require between 2 to 5 units per side of the nose. Overall, 4 to 10 units are usually employed. It ranges based on the strength of the muscle and the depth of the lines.
Your provider will evaluate your facial anatomy, and determine the appropriate dosage so that you are not over-treated leaving you looking frozen.
The session starts with a brief consultation. Your provider will evaluate your facial movements and pinpoint the locations for injections precisely. The skin is then cleansed and Botox is injected with an ultrafine needle.
The whole process typically takes under 15 minutes. There is no pain and very little discomfort.
Following treatment, you can get right back to most of your regular activities. You may experience some redness, swelling or have small bumpy spots where the injection was given, although they will usually go after a few hours.
